The résumé filter nobody shows you

Written by you.Parsed by them.

Before a recruiter searches, an ATS has already parsed and ranked your résumé by the words in the posting. Pawhala closes that gap — every missing term in a real sentence, every bullet quantified, exported as PDF.

§ 01The mechanism

The ATS doesn’t reject you. It ranks you.

No algorithm bins your résumé. It’s a database: it parses your file, then recruiters search it with the exact language of the posting. Miss those terms and you rank below the people who didn’t — where nobody scrolls.

  1. 01

    Parse

Your PDF is flattened into fields — titles, dates, skills, bullet text.

  2. 02

    Search

Recruiters query that database using the exact terms in the posting.

  3. 03

    Rank

Results are ordered by keyword coverage. Low coverage sits below the fold.

§ 02What it does

Four tools, one pass from raw résumé to sendable PDF.

GAP01 / 04

See what the parser is missing

Paste a job description and get a match score plus every keyword, skill, and phrase your résumé doesn't contain — ranked by how much it matters.

REWRITE02 / 04

Bullets rewritten to match

Each line is reworked to carry the required terms and a real metric — your experience, phrased the way the role asks for it.

LETTER03 / 04

A cover letter that fits the posting

Structured to the job's tone and requirements — hook, evidence, close — not a template with the company name swapped in.

BUILD04 / 04

Start from a blank page

No résumé yet? Build one on a Classic, Modern, or Minimal template and take it straight into the optimizer.

§ 03The pass

Under a minute, start to PDF.

Four steps, and the whole pass runs in about the time it takes to reread the posting.

  1. 01

    Add your résumé

Upload a PDF or paste the text.

  2. 02

    Paste the job description

The full posting — every requirement counts.

  3. 03

    Read the gap

Match score and the ranked list of what's missing.

  4. 04

    Export the PDF

Optimized résumé and cover letter, ready to send.

This runs right here, in your browser, on the two boxes to the right — no account, nothing sent anywhere. It’s a preview of the analysis; the full pass rewrites your bullets to close the gap.

§ 05Same work, re-read

One bullet, before and after the parser.

3794+57
Before — as written37% match
  • Worked on backend systems
  • Helped improve app performance
  • Joined planning meetings
  • Fixed bugs, wrote some tests
After — re-read for the role94% match
  • Built REST microservices in Node.js/TypeScript; cut API latency 40%
  • Indexed PostgreSQL hot paths; p95 800ms → 120ms
  • Ran sprint planning for a 6-engineer team on Scrum
  • Held 94% coverage with Jest/Cypress; incidents down 60%

Illustrative. Same experience — nothing invented, only rephrased to carry the terms the posting asks for.

§ 06Straight answers

The three things people ask before they trust it.

Isn’t this keyword stuffing?

No. Every term lands in a real sentence with a real metric. It reads clean to a person — the parser and the recruiter both pass it.

Does it make things up?

No. It only rephrases what’s already in your résumé. You review every line before anything exports.

What happens to my résumé?

It’s used only to generate your documents — never sold, never used to train models. Delete it whenever you want.

§ 08Questions

Common questions.

We extract the keywords, skills, and phrases a posting asks for, then check which ones appear in your résumé. The score is that coverage — a proxy for how well you'd rank when a recruiter searches the ATS by the posting's language. The gap list is what's absent, ordered by importance.

No. Terms go into real sentences with real metrics — a recruiter reads it as normal, strong writing. There is no hidden text, no white-on-white keywords, nothing a person or a parser would mark as gaming.

A PDF résumé or plain text pasted directly. Optimized résumés and cover letters export as PDF.

Your résumé and the job descriptions you paste are used only to generate your documents. They are not shared, not sold, and not used to train models. Delete anything from your history whenever you want.

It depends on the role and how well your original résumé already reflects your work — a résumé that omits terms you genuinely have room to add moves the most. We show the before and after so you see the change on your own résumé, not an average.
